Vote for Soldier's Scar's @ Brickfish: [link]

This was the first panel of my next S:dA entry. Well it still is, but I liked the idea so much, I made it it's own finished piece.

This is one of those moments I wish I didn't have such a cartoony style, because cartoons get dismissed as not being serious or have any deeper meaning. I actually hide a lot of meaning behind my cartoons. I always wonder if someone ever catches it.

Anyways, I know I've said Todd is never one to brood over things, but no soldier ever comes out of war without some scars.

I gotta say that I'm at least proud that I did a serious background attempt. It wasn't an afterthought for once.

Now it's time for bed. Zzzz...

"This picture, A Soldier's Scars by *kilojara16, is simply beautiful. It's an amazing work of art in its own right, combining simple shapes with stunning colours for a bold and larger-than life natural setting - it is a work of art. but in the same breath, it is a story. Comic artists are often not referred to as 'artists' because their primary goal is to tell a story. yet not even the most harden cynic would doubt this images artistic and narrative merit. it always takes my breath away. the metaphor, where the reflection in the water depicts the reflection in the character's mind; the contrast, between the violent, hot war scene and the peaceful jungle; and above all the way the picture sucks you right into the character's mind and soul, leaving you breathless, all makes this a top class image." - manic-pixie (Suggested by *manic-pixie and Featured by `misskittyoooo)

This is very beautiful - don't worry about people not taking this piece of 'cartoon' serious. I love the style, and this particular drawing is very very beautiful. I love your background, and envy the fact that you can pull out such awesome nature. I really like the whole idea, and you managed to draw it so well. The reflection in the water is perfect, and all in all, I really like this drawing... there's something about it, bitter-sweet, sad, disturbing yet beautiful.

I know what you mean about the cartoony style thing. I want to put some deep philosophical meaning (well kind of) into Post Martin, but I doubt people will get it because of the style I draw in, or will just focus on the hilarity. But this is an awesome pic, looking forward to the entry!

cartoons, comics, animation and other so called 'entertainment' art works are often misinterpreted or overlooked. as an avid reader of comic books, i know that no comic is just some interestingly drawn characters there for the pure purpose of amusement. your characters are deep, expressive, and engaging. at least for me, this whole storyline seems very involved and i can't believe anyone could dismiss the deeper meaning.
